All Natural Facials Fort Lauderdale
Read The Label.
We are programmed to read food labels. We would never eat foods that contain high levels of toxic chemicals, but do you know exactly what you are putting on your skin? As you apply body moisturizer or apply your lipstick or lip gloss you could be subjecting your body to less than beneficial cocktails. Recent studies show that the average woman applies 10 to 14 products on her body and over 500 chemicals a day in her beauty routine. In fact, makeup and lipstick can contain as many as 9 different metals alone. (75% of lipstick contains lead.) And women ingest over 24 mg of lipstick a day.
Over exposure to some chemicals has been linked to toxicity in the nervous system and cancer, and such studies are not new. For many years we have been warned of the possible side effects of parabens. What exactly are parabens? Parabens are a group of preservatives that manufacturers began using approximately 50 years ago. These ingredients are used in cosmetics and your personal hygiene products, as well as food products and pharmaceuticals. Parabens are highly effective in preventing the growth of fungi, bacteria and yeast that can cause most products to spoil. These cheap synthetics are used to extend the shelf life of a product.
Pay attention to your product’s ingredients list. Parabens are listed as: methylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, isopropylparaben, and isobutylparabens.
Adolescent and adult females have higher levels of paraben in their urine than their male counterparts of the same age. Parabens are estrogen mimickers and are found in higher amounts near the underarm area in female breast. This is the region where the highest number of breast tumors are usually found. Two major studies have shown that in vitro, when breast tumor cells are exposed to parabens, they multiply and proliferate.
The new direction that skin care is heading is in products that are not only effective, but safe. There are many safer alternatives to parabens that already exist. Grapefruit seed extract, rosemary extract, citric acid, ascorbic acid, beet oil, tea tree oil, vitamin E, avocado oil, fermented radish root, and anisic acid from the aniseed.
