What you never thought could happen has finally come true. You’ve found a skin care routine and products that seem to work perfectly for your skin. The correct cleansers, serums and moisturizers have certainly made a big difference in how soft your skin feels and how youthful it looks.
It’s a fantastic feeling to find the perfect product line for you. However, what you may not know is there is a specific way in which you need to layer your products so that you get the maximum benefits from them. This technique is known as layering. Layering your products is essential because it not only gives you better immediate results, it also gives you superior results in the long-term.

Why Should I Layer Skin Care Products?

Layering your skin care serves one major purpose: To give you the best results possible. When you layer your skin care, you are giving your skin a substantial hydration, moisture and collagen boost. When the products are layered correctly, your skin is better able to absorb each product, thus allowing each product to perform its function in an effective manner.

Why Is It Important To Layer My Skin Care In A Specific Way?

The importance of which product to apply to your skin is key in how your skin responds. If your skin care products are not layered correctly, then they cannot effectively reach the layers of skin for which were intended to reach. For example, you should not apply a moisturizer and then follow that up by using a product that exfoliates. While exfoliating your skin is very important for removing the top layer of cellular buildup, exfoliating away your moisturizer does not give it the chance to do its job.

How Do Some Ingredients Affect My Skin?

It is important to note that some ingredients should not be used simultaneously. To avoid skin sensitivities and other adverse reactions, avoid synthetic retinoids with hydroxyl acids. These ingredients are great for minimizing lines and wrinkles, however when used together they can cause ultraviolet (UV) light sensitivity.

Order of Layering Your Skin Care Products

After you cleanse your skin you want to follow up with the appropriate serum. Serums are water-based and are very concentrated. They are able to penetrate deeply into the skin layers to fight lines and wrinkles from beneath the skin surface. Since serums are highly concentrated, you only need one or two pumps. After you have applied your serum, you will want to apply your moisturizer. Moisturizers are heavier and do not penetrate the skin layers in the same manner as your serum does. Your moisturizer is meant to lock in the serum that you apply first. It keeps your skin hydrated and prevents water (hydration) loss.

Now that you have taken steps to layer your skin products so that you get the maximum benefit from them, you can expect even better results that are immediately noticeable and will continue to give you long-lasting results for years to come.
